This song is about about an inability to fit into boxes and to meet conventional standards of ‘success’, and at the same time owning, celebrating failure. Social media has made it so that everyone constantly boasts how they’re ‘winning life’, which often contradicts what’s actually going on. I find it trite. I grew up outside of the conventions of what’s normal, doing exactly what I wanted, and always being loud about it. I don’t adhere to social norms of ‘winning it’. Sometimes I’m defiant in sticking to my choices and values, other times I succumb to this pressure of feeling failure, but it’s my life, I chose it, so I laugh and I cry about it, because I wouldn’t change how I live. The song is celebratory one – a celebration of failure.
